We can all be lifelong learners even from bits and pieces of information!
Lifelong learning means self-directed growth. It means being aware of what is going on in the world beyond your personal existence.
To become a better lifelong earner is to be aware of information and knowledge from a variety of sources. Rather than limiting yourself make each day an adventure in discovery and explorations.
Lifelong learning isn't consciously studying, or having to memorize something someone tells you to, or pursuing a certain set of subjects which schools consider important.
Many people have trouble at first with the concept of self-directed learning. They can't see that independent, unconstrained, non-institutionalized learning is also a "real" education.
Too many people assume that the "right" way to learn is in a classroom, from a teacher and from texts, through listening to "expert authorities", and doing assigned reading by taking tests and getting grades.
The lifelong learner is liberated from these superstitions about education; and therefore, free to pursue his/her own growth in an infinite variety of ways.
