Simple Man by Lynyrd Skynryd

skynrdIn 1964, Ronnie Van Zant, Johnny Van Zant, Allen Collins, Gary Rossington, Larry Junstrom, and Bob Burns united their musical genius, they established themselves as the fathers of Southern hard rock with a band which would evolve to be Lynyrd Skynryd. Within just six years, the band and their signature style of streaming guitars, regional grit, and boisterous blues played at live venues and Battle of the Band competitions earned the group great fame. When tragedy struck the group in 1977 following a plane crash which killed new members Steve Gaines and Cassie Gaines, as well as frontman Ronnie Van Zant, the music industry and fans lost some of the most influential rockers of the 1970s. Their legacy remains firm in eternity for delivering Freebird, one of the most requested songs in the universe.

Mama told me when I was young
Come sit beside me, my only son
And listen closely to what I say.
And if you do this
It’ll help you some sunny day. Oh yah!
Oh, take your time… Don’t live too fast,
Troubles will come and they will pass.
You’ll find a woman, yea yea, you’ll find love,
And don’t forget son,
There is someone up above.

And be a simple, kind of man.
Oh be something, you love and understand.
Baby be a simple, kind of man.
Oh, won’t you do this for me son,
If you can?

Forget your lust, for the rich man’s gold
All that you need, is in your soul,
And you can do this, oh baby, if you try.
All that I want for you my son,
Is to be satisfied.

And be a simple, kind of man.
Oh be something, you love and understand.
Baby be a simple, kind of man.
Oh, won’t you do this for me son,
If you can?

Boy, don’t you worry…you’ll find yourself.
Follow your heart, and nothing else.
And you can do this, oh baby, if you try.
All I want for you my son,
Is to be satisfied.

And be a simple kind of man
Oh be something, you love and understand
Baby be a simple kind of man
Won’t you do this for me, son,
If you can?

Baby be a simple, be a simple man
Oh be something, you love and understand.
Be a simple, kind of man.”
